Birthdays may be bad for your health! A recent study found that the incidence of stroke rises around the time of an individual's birthday. Based on the study outlined below, patients especially those with high blood pressure should avoid excessive drinking, large fatty meals, and strenuous physical activity especially around the birthday.
Even more so, they should not let the birthday festivities let them forget their dietary restrictions and medications.
Is It Leaky Gut or Leaky Gut Syndrome?
Birthday-stroke study
Drs. Saposnik and colleagues from the Stroke Team at the London Health Sciences Center, University of Western Ontario, Canada, published their findings of their population-based study titled, "Does a birthday predispose to vascular events?" in the Journal Neurology .
Hypothesis of birthday-stroke study
These investogators hypothesized that birthdays have an impact on the onset and course of vascular events such as stroke, transient ischemic attacks (TIA or mini-stroke) and acute myocardial infarction (AMI).
They studied all emergency department admissions due to vascular events such as ischemic stroke, TIA and heart attacks. The study found that the number of vascular events during the birthday was higher than the otherwise expected daily number. The increases were seen for stroke, TIAs and anterior myocardial infarction or heart attacks.
Results of birthday-stroke study
- There was no change in admissions related to asthma, appendicitis or head injury.
- Increase in vascular events on birthdays was greater than the increases observed on other holidays like Christmas.
- Further analysis showed that a vascular event at birthday was more likely to occur in patients with high blood pressure.
Conclusions of birthday-stroke study
The authors concluded that the stress associated with birthdays may trigger vascular events in predisposed patients.

Partying is good, but don't get carries away. If you are hosting a party, do what you can easily do and do not go out of way just to look good or please others. Eat/drink in moderation!
