Fish as part of diet has already been credited with many beneficial effects on health including reducing the incidence of sudden death and abnormal heart rhthms like atrial fibrillation. The positive impact is probably related to its effect on heart conduction/rhythms. However, the exact mechanisms are unknown.
Previous data suggests that fried issue may not be as helpful for provision of the n-3 fatty acids. Now comes a report that consumption of broiled or baked fish potentially reduces the risk of abnormal heart rhythms.
Is It Leaky Gut or Leaky Gut Syndrome?
Harvard study
Mozaffarian and colleagues from the Harvard Medical School examined data on 5096 patients who were part of a Cardiovascular heart Study. The study titled, "Dietary Fish and n-3 Fatty Acid Intake and Cardiac Electrocardiographic Parameters in Humans" was published in American Journal of Cardiology (Aug 2006). These investigators looked at the possible link between diet and the abnormal heart rhythms.
Data was adjusted for impact for age, gender, race, education, smoking, body mass index, diabetes, coronary heart disease, physical activity, and intakes of beef or pork, fried fish, fruits, vegetables, alcohol, and total calories.
Results
The authors found that fish/tuna consumption was associated with slower heart rate without any evidence of any deleterious electrocardiographic EKG abnormalities.
Conclusions
They concluded that dietary baked or broiled fish or tuna intake is associated with healthy modification of cardiac electrophysiology and thus can reduce the risk for arrhythmias and related sudden death.
Dr. Minocha's comments
Eating healthy foods is important and part of healthy eating is healthy cooking. A good food product can make the food less healthy by the way it is cooked including adding carcinogens as well as calories!
